Online Therapy
“The shoe that fits one person pinches another;
there is no recipe for living that suits all cases.”
– Carl Jung
Does Life Feel Upside Down?
- Is CoVid- 19 making you feel uncertain about the future?
- Are you finding yourself more irritated or anxious than usual?
- You may feel lost and lonely due to social distancing measures?
- Are you worried about your own health or those close to you?
Right now, life is changed. Right now, life may be more difficult. You might find yourself trying to be a tightrope walker balancing even more things than before including working from home, creating a new school schedule for your kids, or not being able to take a break from daily stressors when it’s necessary. You might feel at any time you could fall off the tightrope and watch your life tumble around you.
IF YOU FEEL THIS WAY YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
Coronavirus Is Creating Chaos Everywhere
The world as a whole is experiencing the fear, anxiety, trauma, and grief created from the Coronavirus pandemic. Perhaps, the word pandemic is enough to cause you to feel a rush of nausea in your stomach or start a cascade of racing thoughts in your mind. The world is uncertain in this moment for all of us. Life in this moment is downright messy. If you were experiencing any mental health symptoms before Covid-19 hit chances are, they have intensified over the last few weeks.
As humans, most of us thrive on connection, knowing stability, and what may come next. Right now, we are sitting in a place where so many things sit unknown. Our jobs, our finances, our health, our relationships, and the outcomes COVID-19 will play into our lives is unclear. I’m with you. I share the mindset the unknown is hard, but it does not have to mean life comes to a halt.
In times of uncertainty, it important to have a place where you can find a sense of calm and support during the chaos.
Fortunately, online therapy provides this opportunity. The opportunity of feeling connected with an experienced therapist to tackle life’s challenges from the comfort of your own home.
Online Therapy Can Make a Difference Now
Finding steady in this moment is not easy. In unfamiliar territory, you may have the tendency to retreat to safety and hunker down until the storm passes. Unfortunately, Covid-19 doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. You may have every reason to say “No, not now.” However, there are MANY reasons to say “Yes.”
You may have not had the time in the past and this may still be the case in the present. But, online therapy provides the flexibility to start something now. When you feel more pressure and concern in all areas of life, why not find support now. You can use online counseling to learn new coping strategies and find a sense of peace with life as it is.
Not Just Another Day. . . .
I’ve been thinking about the month of September since May. And while I have more to say and continue from my last post something else is on my mind tonight. Today, September 10, is World Suicide Prevention Day. There’s a lot attached to this day. There are people out...
Online Counseling Can Build a Constant in your life and become a fixture of support
As with any new client or family I work with we will look at an all-around picture of your life to start. As your therapist, I want to see what is working and what is not. You will introduce me to your life since you are the expert on it. In early sessions, we will also create treatment goals directly related to your individual needs. I know you may feel as though you have no control in your life right now. . . However true that may feel there are always some things in our control and within our reach to change. When we look at each issue, we can break down a game plan piece by piece and start right away.
Right now, you may find it hard to believe that you can make changes in your life and things can be different. The biggest part of my job is bringing the hope that it can. In all honesty, we don’t know when our lives will return to what they looked like before or even if they will and that’s dang hard. I wish I had better answers for you! But, with the help of a supportive and experienced therapist things may be a little easier than they have been. And, I don’t know about you but to me that sounds like a pretty good reason to get started.
Are You Still Undecided About Online Therapy?
How Does Online Therapy Work?
It would be easy to toss the idea of online therapy aside. Time for a little honesty here. . . There may be a learning curve in the beginning and at times it may be frustrating. With the use of online platforms, you may have concerns of privacy, technological glitches, and the possibility of feeling disconnected from me. First, please know I have done extra training in providing telehealth to protect privacy and I have researched the platforms we will use. Second, we will work together to come up with a plan to ensure privacy in your home from family, roommates, or neighbors. We can be creative and find a solution that works for you. I will also guarantee the same privacy on my end. Also, I may not be able to stop glitches and disconnections from happening, but we will have a backup plan if it happens. Finally, the connection felt through telehealth can be as strong as in person. I will be the same on-screen as I am in person.
Now for the good stuff! The best part of online therapy is you can do it in the comfort of your own home. Imagine, feeling more calm with your own things around such as your blankets, pets, or sitting in your favorite chair.
Does Online Counseling Work and Is It as Effective As In Person Therapy?
The answer to this question is YES! First, the research shows online therapy can be just as effective as face to face therapy for different diagnoses including Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, depression, and anxiety. Second, the effectiveness of any kind of therapy really comes down to your willingness to share your feelings, thoughts, and life with someone you don’t know. Finally, online therapy will be most effective for those who are comfortable with technology and are open to using it for counseling.
