Back in 2018, I had the pleasure of meeting the founder of Brighter Days Grief Center, Carolyn Kinzel. We shared stories of our personal grief and professional ideas to address it. In particular, she shared Brighter Days Grief Center was founded by helping her son struggle through a tremendous loss. And, let me tell you she is a visionary. She had a dream, went after it, and is continuing to build it.
In my opinion, this center is an ally to grievers. You can tell they understand what grievers need right down to the way some of the rooms in the building are set up. For example, the room we sat in had huge comfy pillows and blankets on every couch. They know people and families going through grief are in a place where they may not be able to find services yet desperately need them. They offer a variety of things including connecting families to a vast list of local grief resources including services like groups, camps, and grief therapists.
As a therapist who looks at life through a grief and trauma lens, finding this resource has been a game changer. Any client who walks through my door who is facing the death of a loved one or has just lost a loved one receives their information. It’s important in our grief to realize we are not alone.
